Dear Group,

There is an elegant software package, GeneFlow, that you should explore.
This is a very robust package written by Edie Paul, a geneticist who
happened to be a professional programmer in a previous life. As such, Edie
has done a great job of anticipating the mappers needs and developing
computing solutions. Edie has a website (http://www.geneflowinc.com) and attends
the PAG conference every year, although I don't recall ever seeing a booth.
I would encourage anyone interested in pedigree drawing or any of the other
aspects of mapping to check out her website, drop Edie an email (listed on
website), and/or make arrangements to visit with her at PAG if you are
attending.

The software is not free, as this endeavor is Edie's primary source of
income, but she does offer discounts.

Dear Group

I would be grateful for recommendations on suitable software for simple
pedigree drawing/haplotype display.

I need to visualise cattle pedigrees typed with a few hundred
microsatellites and show haplotype structure. In the near future I will want
to do the same thing with SNP-based data. I have used Cyrillic in the past
and it more-or-less does what I want, but I have not had to do this for a
long time and I am sure the state-of-the art has moved on.

Added bonus for software that runs on Mac OSX and/or is free!

Thanks

Steve
